Resident Evil The Dark Side Chronicles only for Wii

Capcom’s been strongly hinting that the Wii would receive another Resident Evil game soon and now we know what it is. The latest issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu has a preview for a Wii light gun game entitled Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (well, Biohazard in Japan but Resident Evil here).

Like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside is a rail shooter. Judging by the pictures of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield in the article (via Kotaku), it’s set at least partly during Resident Evil 2. Umbrella Chronicles featured segments from several different RE games so you’d expect Darkside to jump around in time as well.

No release date was provided for Darkside. It’s not even clear whether it will be released in the United States, though that does seem likely considering that Capcom promised new game announcements at the San Francisco launch party for Resident Evil 5. They’re not going to unveil games to a mob of American gamers and then go, “By the way, you’re not getting this.” Note that they said there would be more than one game announcement, though – could it be the rumored Code: Veronica remake?

Capcom is set to announce a new game or two at the Resident Evil 5 launch party next Thursday. Rather than let everyone speculate wildly, it seems Capcom has already revealed what new project they’re going to announce.

When asked by GameFocus whether a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake would be coming to PSN or Xbox Live Arcade, Capcom product manager Matt Dahlgren said this: “Nothing is planned for the game regarding a remake on PSN/XBLA, but what I can say is if you are a fan of Code: Veronica you should pay attention in the next couple of weeks there is some news you should be very pleased with.”

Dahlgren adds that C:V fans should pay attention on March 12th, which happens to be the same date as the RE5 launch party. Thus, it seems pretty likely they’ll be unveiling a Code Veronica remake at that event. Will it be on PSN and XBLA, though? Maybe not. When speaking to Joystiq recently, Dahlgren said that while RE5 isn’t coming to Wii, Wii owners will still be “very, very happy” soon.

Code: Veronica was originally released for the Dreamcast in 2000 and eventually made it to the PS2 and GameCube as well. If Code Veronica comes to the Wii, it would be the third RE remake to hit the console. Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Zero, both originally GameCube titles, were ported to the Wii in 2007 and 2008.
