While American gamers are going to have to wait until March 9 to get their hands on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Europeans still have no idea when they can expect their copies, the game has been selling like hotcakes since its January 31 release in Japan.
SSBB was only the seventh game in the history of top Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu to be given a perfect score of 40 out of 40, so it was no surprise that the game has been flying off store shelves.
The game has already sold 819,647 copies, easily taking it to number one in the Japanese charts for January 28 to February 3, according to figures released by Media Create.
Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4, also released on January 31 came in second, selling some 205,390 copies.
Regarding hardware, the Wii came out on top this week, with SSBB no doubt helping to boost the sales of the console–94,473 were taken home by new owners. The PlayStation Portable came second with 72,528, then the DS Lite with 67,472, PlayStation 3 with 41,796, PlayStation 2 with 12,115, and finally the Xbox 360 with 6,060.
